Scott takes lead in Atlanta, Choi 1 back

Photo - Adam Scott ATLANTA - For the second straight day Australia's Adam Scott birdied Nos. 17 and 18 to grab the midway lead at East Lake Golf Club. Scott got it to 8 under par after 36 holes to lead by one over South Korea's K.J. Choi and stands two clear of fellow Aussie Jason Day and Englishman and world number one Luke Donald.

"Yeah, 17, I think, is playing particularly difficult today," Scott said. "The tee shot with the left-to-right wind is not very easy, and I hit a really nice tee shot but ended up in a divot and managed to squeeze a 9-iron out pretty close there actually. Kind of fortunate in a way.

"And then 18, obviously, is just always a pretty tough hole," he added. "It's a long hole. But it set up good for me today. I could just draw -- turn a 3-iron over on the wind, and I knew it would be the right club. I felt pretty comfortable when I got to that tee and made a couple nice putts on those holes. Yeah, I've actually birdied them both days so far, so I'd like that trend to continue."

If the tournament were to end with all players in their current positions on the leaderboard, Scott would not only get his second U.S. PGA Tour win of the year, he would also win the FedExCup and the $10 million prize that goes along with it.

The extra cash is not something that is keeping the likeable Scott awake at night.

"I've got to win, and I imagine Webb must have to finish pretty lowly to give me a chance," he said. "Yeah, that's all I know. I don't know anything past that. I just figured if I win this week, I'll be happy no matter what. I'll finish what I think has been a really good season, moving in the right direction with everything, and look forward to next season. I couldn't wait for it to start if I were to win this week."

Choi found happiness in the second round by equaling the lowest score he has ever recorded at East Lake.

"Tee shot is great today," said Choi. "So far nine times I think at Tour Championship, and best score so far in the second round. I'm so happy because yesterday I'm starting tee shot, and second shot in -- anything is easier than better at any time. Putting sometimes miss five feet and 10 feet and 15 feet and many missed putts. And today morning early, 45 minutes at the putting green area, and then stroke, five feet, 20 feet, 60 feet, 30 feet, and more comfortable in the putting. Tee shot and second shot great today.

"So far, so good," he added. "The swing great, and then scoring fantastic. I'm in very good position for the weekend, and I'll keep going for best finish."
